Today was the first day of school for Colby and Dylan. Colby who is now in kindergarden and Dylan started Pre-K!! How did this happen so fast? They were just little boys and now officially big boys starting school. The best part is that we didn't have to go very far.....yup we are homeschooling!! Not sure how long we will do this just take each year as it comes.
It went well this morning even having Abby around. Colby is learning short i for his reading/phonics so an Indian is our friend :-) this way he can remember how it sounds. We read a Diego book that focuses on the short i and he did good reading some of the words by himself. He actually sounded the words out. Math was a quick because it was a review of what he already knows but its part of the curriculum so I am going with what the lesson tells me to do. We also went over our bible verses that they are to be learning from church and did an art project. Not sure if you call this art but it was from the Art Book. It is a name tag, house, and phone. This is for them to learn our address and mommy's cell phone number. Scott and I decided that learning our home number isn't much good since we rarely ever answer it. The kids drew a picture of our family on the middle piece. Dylan decided he was the only person in his family :-). Colby drew all 5 of us including a circle on my belly for the baby.
At the top is the kids name, middle is our address (plus each drew a pictures of our family), bottom is mommy's cell phone number |
Dylan is reviewing his shape "circle", the number zero, and the letter A. He had to color/trace circles, trace the number zero along with circle which box had zero items in it, and trace the letter A and look at pictures that start with the letter A. He colored some too. He needs some practice coloring more neatly vs scribbling all over the page. Dylan and I read 2 books of his choice and he did the Art project too.
Over all the day was a good one. Thankfully their best buddies Katie and Jackson haven't started school yet so after everything was completed they had a play date with them.
Glad it went well! You are my guinea pig ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome!! I really need to re-teach my kids their phone # as well. They both know the home # - but a lot of good that does them?? Ahh, the times-are-a-changin... Evan has made leaps & bounds of progress with reading this summer. I think it's at the top of my list of my favorite things about kids (so far). (BTW, Potty training falls at the bottom of that list.) I love love love teaching the kids to read. Besides, 4 is my favorite age so far, too (for both boy & girl). Hugs!
